DataGuard has released its 2023 Trend Report for Information Security. This special report highlights the current state of information security and sheds light on the biggest cybersecurity challenges businesses face today. It also covers the new NIS2 Directive, the most recent data breaches and cyberattacks, and what businesses can learn from these breaches.

As the information security landscape continues to develop at speed, the actionable insights in this report will be your go-to resource for InfoSec updates on the horizon. The analyses and expert viewpoints will help Organizations navigate and build information security roadmap for 2023 and beyond. The report highlights the increase in the number of data breaches, with the third quarter of 2022 alone accounting for 108.9 million accounts being breached. This is a 70% increase from the previous quarter.

The report goes on to identify the three biggest information security challenges, which include cybersecurity attacks, BYOD security issues, and risks posed by increased remote work. The report also covers the EU’s new NIS2 Directive, which imposes stricter legal requirements for cybersecurity. The NIS2 Directive brings legal requirements for cybersecurity risk management measures and reporting obligations. It will help around 160,000 entities tighten their grip on security in Europe. European member states are required to transpose the new act into national law by 18 October 2024.

The report speculates on the Information Security Threats to Expect in 2023, which include Lack of Funding in the SME Space and Cloud Breaches from Improper Configurations, Data Sharing, and Compromised Credentials. The report does highlight that ISO 27001 implementation is on the rise. It started with around 6,000 in 2006 and grew to a staggering 30,000 plus per year in 2020.
